#26: September 3rd, 2010 - Finishing the Trunk Opening and Spare Tire Well...
Back in June I welded in new sheetmetal in the trunk opening area. I left that story with the surfaces coated in gray primer. Now I need to go back and put the final finish on the repaired area as well as the rest of the trunk opening.
At first I thought this would be a simple job. I just needed to sand off the gray primer, apply some filler to the repaired areas, sand and prime. As I started inspecting the opening, I noticed several high and low spots, as well as old sealer and body work that would need to be addressed.
So I started by sanding the entire area down to remove any high spots and old sealer & filler, then put on several thin coats of body filler, followed by sanding and finally the primer was put down.
While I had the filler out, I put a coat on the underside of the spare tire well where the repairs were done. You can not even see the repair from the pictures.
